I like this quote simply because it was the most shocking line in this book so far. Captain John Black was relieved and appeased when his dead family showed up. He spent a fine day with them and was trying to get to sleep. All of a sudden, a strange hypothesis stroke his head. He imagined that all of his families are delusions and hallucinations made by the martians, who were trying to repel the alien intrusion. Then, he tried to escape from his hallucinatory house but his "brother" Ed stops him. Captain John lies that he was going for a drink of water. Then Ed replies that he is not thirsty. John replies back by saying that he is thirsty. Ed finally says "No, you're not" then kills Captain John Black.
This is also a line which makes it clear that the third expedition ended up as another failure.
